We provide budget bus travel at competitive prices, for travel around the South Island, New Zealand. We have been transporting kiwis, international visitors and backpackers around the South Island for nearly 20 years on coaches at budget fares.

We offer some accommodation, and Backpacker pick ups and drop offs.

We will match or better a competitors fare at a comparable time excluding $1.00 (one dollar) fare, but for cheap fares and budget travel around the South Island of New Zealand Atomic Travel is your cheapest option. If we are not the cheapest option for bus travel, feel free to contact us and we will endeavor to match it on an Atomic operated service. Some of our services are carried by InterCity Coachlines, & Wanaka ConneXions.

No booking fee when booking online via our web page click on Book here on the right of this page or under the Get Started on the left of any page. (please note you do not need to print your ticket, just take note of your booking id)

Atomic Travel will better any competitors fare by 10% on a comparable journey on any Atomic Travel operated service eg morning service against morning service. So please give us the opportunity to match or better any fare out there. (excludes $1 fares)

Pick up and drop off points in Christchurch.

We are now able to pick up from inside the 4 Avenues on most services, our new central pick up point will be outside the Christchurch Bus Interchange 72 Lichfield Street.

Intercity Coachlines operated legs also depart from 72 Lichfield street outside bus Interchange Christchurch (Please check your ticket pick up, and drop off location)

Report times are 15 minutes prior to the departure of service.

Stand By Fares are available now $20.00

$20.00 per person, on most Atomic Travel operated legs Stand-By seats are from Central Pick-Up points to Central Drop-Off points Christchurch= Christchurch Bus Exchange 72 Lichfield Street, Dunedin= Dunedin Railway Station, Picton=Picton Ferry Terminal (from 7th November), Queenstown=The Station Building, Blenheim= Blenheim Railway Station (from 7th November) , Kaikoura=pickup at bus stop outside Fish Tank Backpackers(heading to Picton, from 7th November), Kaikoura=Pickup at 1 of 3 bus stops at public car park West End, (heading to Christchurch from 7th November) to central drop off points, and if a seat is not booked you can approach the driver for a Stand By fare of $20.00.

This bus may be have a group booking and may be picking up from an alternative point, Atomic Travel takes no responsibility if this happens Please note these are not available on the Christchurch to Greymouth (via Arthurs Pass) or Greymouth to Christchurch (via Arthurs Pass) leg but you can approach the driver at the, Christchurch Bus exchange or  Greymouth Train Station, Greymouth for a walk up fare but will be the full price if seats are available.and you turn up at our central pick up point.

Christchurch to Queenstown and return is on reduced days over winter. Please note from the 8th of May through to November this will be operating Christchurch to Queenstown  Friday and Sunday Return on Saturday and Monday only. Queenstown-Dunedin 2.45pm and 10am Dunedin-Queenstown is also on reduced days for winter. Friday and Sunday Queenstown to Dunedin. Return Saturday and Mondays only. We are still able to offer seats which can be booked via our web page with Alpine Conexions (at their prices) Christchurch to Picton Return will be carried by InterCity Coachlines through the winter months, the central departure will be from Bus Interchange 72 Lichfield Street.
